Our Story
Ashley’s Art Room is a mobile art studio run by art teacher and owner, Ashley Coenen. In Ashley’s Art Room, every child is an artist! Students are given the autonomy to make independent choices about their artwork and enjoy the process of creation and discovery. They receive thoughtful guidance and lessons to enable them to learn art history and explore a variety of techniques and materials.
The art room was Ashley’s safe haven in high school, and the place where she felt most like herself. She strives to cultivate that same kind of space for all of her students. The name “Ashley’s Art Room” represents both the physical space and materials to make art, as well as the creation of a space that feels warm, welcoming and safe to be yourself and explore your creativity.
About Ashley
Ashley has been teaching art since 2007. She holds a master’s degree in art education from University of the Arts and a bachelor’s degree in two-dimensional fine arts from Moore College of Art and Design.
Ashley’s career started with teaching after school art programs in Philadelphia for the Mural Arts Program. This is where she fell in love with teaching art. That experience inspired her to enroll in graduate school to study art education and earn her teaching certification. She went on to teach art at AIM Academy, Girard College, Bala House Montessori School, Fleisher Art Memorial, Philadelphia Special Olympics Summer Camp and more!
Ashley now lives in South Jersey with her three children, husband and two cats. She can usually be found reading, cooking, gardening, drawing or at one of her son’s soccer games. After 19 years, she still thinks teaching art is the best job in the world!
